Halifax's Bud the Spud moves on

Bud the Spud is retiring.
After 32 years, Bud True and wife Nancy are packing up their french fry operation on Halifax's Spring Garden Road.
True said it was time to hang up the fry basket.
"Nancy's back is gone, and she can't bend over anymore to serve the
customers," he said Wednesday. "I have a new hip, and I'm supposed to
be waiting for a new knee, and my shoulder's gone, so I can't shake the
baskets anymore."
The Trues, both 67, have been selling paper bags filled with french
fries since 1977. Bud isn't revealing any trade secrets, such as how
many pounds of fries they sell a year.
"If I told you all the family secrets, I'd have to kill you," he said
with a laugh. "Let's just say a lot. Like McDonald's, it's billions of
fries sold."
The Bud the Spud chip truck and name are for sale, but that doesn't
include the prime spot in front of the Spring Garden Road library.
True said anyone who wants to know the price should call him.
"We need a younger couple to take it that love french fries, that can do what we've created and hopefully carry on," he said.
